No fixed pair guarantees the result. Better horses win more often, but every horse retains a random chance, so the weak horse can surge and the favorite can fall behind.
Look for a wide performance gap
Use current cards and recent finishes to choose the pair.

Do not accidentally train the slow horse

Avoid replacing either horse between attempts unless the results show the roles are wrong. Constant changes make it impossible to tell whether the pair is improving your odds.

For each attempt:

Both finish near the middle: The pair is not creating a useful split in observed results. Recheck levels, traits, and history.
A horse trips on a hurdle: Treat that attempt separately. Recovery and obstacle outcomes can overwhelm the pair comparison.
Do not sacrifice another badge horse
Do not use a ten-win Horsepower candidate as disposable roster material. The trailing horse can still hold rarity, level, or care progress, so inspect it before removal. Likewise, keep the lead horse after success if it supports the 50-win or level 30 goals.
This focused setup can overlap with Casual Stroll if the last-place margin meets that badge’s condition. It can also produce normal win progress for the lead horse. Let those extra awards register, but do not change the pair until Final Stretch is confirmed.
Wait for Final Stretch to register
When the result board shows your horses in first and last, wait for the full reward sequence. Open the live badge list and verify Final Stretch. If it does not appear immediately, preserve both horses and rejoin once before rebuilding the roster.
Record the successful pair for future reference, but do not present it as universal. Another player’s horses have different randomized traits, levels, and histories.
